How to achieve more from business
meetings
Background
There are many situations when an external facilitator could help improve the decision making process and move forward more quickly;
• when the result of the meeting or workshop is critical for business success
• when there are different points of view in the room
• when new creative thoughts are needed
• when objectivity is called for
• when a team needs to own the result and solution
• when there is a lack of expertise in facilitation e.g. strategic planning, change plan etc
Purpose
When everybody needs to participate, rather than to lead or chair, the facilitator provides a structure and creativity to guide participants towards an agreed goal.
Objective
The facilitator has engaged the hearts and minds of the participants in the meeting or workshop, which leads to a commitment to implement the solution.
Process
Sometimes interviews are held prior to a planned meeting or workshop in order to understand the participants better. Also, to agree the meeting objectives and agenda with the owner of the meeting. A debrief is held after the event and to decide on the next step, if any.
